From 1 November 2026, a new Medicare Healthy Kids Check will be available for Medicare-eligible 3-year-old children. This once-per-child health assessment is designed to support early identification of health or developmental concerns and help families connect with appropriate care and support.

During the check, a GP or prescribed medical practitioner will assess your child’s physical, social and emotional development, health and wellbeing. The assessment may include:

  • Your child’s medical history, medicines, immunisations and allergies
  • Behaviour, wellbeing and age-appropriate developmental milestones
  • Family circumstances, care arrangements and early childhood education
  • Nutrition, physical activity, screen use and sleep
  • Eyesight, hearing, oral health, height, weight and growth
  • Advice, follow-up care and referrals when required

Parents and carers may also be offered a written report with recommendations from the assessment.
